What training do I need for caregiver job opportunities?

Some Care Team members come to Commonwise as certified nurse aides, personal care aides, home health aides, or nursing students. Others have extensive informal and private caregiving experience but no formal training. And many have no caregiving experience at all but take advantage of our unique Caregiver University training program. What are the requirements for in-home care jobs?

Caregivers undergo a comprehensive background and driver’s record check. If you are concerned about a past conviction or your driving record, don’t let that stop you from contacting us to learn more about these policies.

Because part of the job involves transporting your client, caregivers must have a vehicle and insurance.

How is a caregiver matched with a client/s?

Caregivers’ personal care skills are assessed by an RN Care Manager during your orientation. Your personal care level is assigned and used to match you with clients whose needs are within your comfort zone. Following your orientation, caregivers meet with the Care Coordination team You give availability, we map that against skill, availability, geography, etc.

Are COVID vaccinations required?

Caregivers are not required to be vaccinated. However, Commonwise clients may request “only vaccinated caregivers”, so unvaccinated caregivers may be limiting the pool of clients they can work with. Also, vaccinated caregivers are able to provide care without masks to vaccinate clients and unvaccinated caregivers will need to mask during their shifts.
